Study of the materials used in the earthen walls of the city of Granada (Spain)

Abstract

This paper reports on the information gathered in relation to the type of materials used in the construction of the city walls of Granada. Reference is made to other earthen buildings in the area and to the possible deposits and sites of extraction of the materials, with the aim of establishing a comparative analysis. This study forms part of the research project under way in the "Dpto. de Construcciones Arquitectónicas" of the University of Granada, titled: "La Tierra en la Arquitectura Granadina: Estudio de Conservación y Restauración". ["Earth in Granadine Architecture: Study of Conservation and Restoration"].
